Sometimes, when your dog barks, it can be incredibly helpful. It can help to alert you to dangers that you haven’t seen or noticed yet. However, when you dog is barking constantly, it can start to get on your nerves. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to help eliminate this nuisance barking. All it takes is some serious training to get your dog to break this obnoxious habit. Blitz K9 Club is here to talk about some of the training techniques that can be used to get rid of unwanted, nuisance dog barking.
Exercise
The number one thing that can be helpful in getting your dog to quit barking is to make sure he or she is getting enough exercise. When a dog isn’t getting the exercise it needs, there tends to be a little more nervous energy built up. There are several ways to ensure your dog is getting the exercise it needs to burn off this energy. The best way to do it is with a walk. Some dogs need to be walked in the morning as well as the evening, but many just need one walk a day. In the winter months, you might enlist the help of a dog treadmill to help get these steps in.
Socialization
The more your dog is around other people and dogs, the better. The dog needs to have a lot of interaction with people of all ages, dogs of all sizes, and even other types of animals as well. This can help them not feel nervous or aggressive when they come in contact with others. This aggression often manifests in barking. Allow your dog to see and socialize with delivery drivers, mailmen, and neighbors that come to your door.
Dog Toys & Puzzles
There are several different interactive toys and puzzles that are made specifically to keep your dog busy. This can help them stop barking at every passerby as well. There might be puzzle toys where the dog has to work to get a treat to come out of it, or toys that are fun to play with because of the different textures and noises they make.
Manage the Dog’s Surroundings
When your dog has a problem with barking every time you leave the house, you might want to try having some noise on in the background. This might be done with the radio or television to help create the same noises that would be present if you were at home. It can also be helpful to close the blinds and curtains anytime you leave the home so that they don’t see the people outside and bark at them.
