This means that you want to have a safe place that your puppy is comfortable while you are not able to be right there, watching its every move. Enter the crate. A properly sized crate is the perfect way to keep your puppy contained while you are not around. That way, when you aren’t with your puppy, you know that they are in a space where they not only feel safe but are contained.
Choosing the Right Sized Crate for Your Dog
You are going to want to make sure that you pick the right sized crate for your dog. You don’t want a crate that is so small that the dog doesn’t have room to move around. However, you also don’t want to have the crate so large that they can have any potty accidents while they are in it. Choosing a larger crate that has a divider in it is a great way to make sure that your puppy doesn’t outgrow the crate, leaving you to purchase another one down the road.
When to Use a Dog Crate
Another thing that you want to be mindful of when you are crate training your dog is to not overuse the crate. You should only be placing the dog inside the crate when you aren’t around to watch it or during the night while you are sleeping. It is okay to have your dog take breaks in the crate throughout the day, but you don’t want your dog to be contained all the time. It isn’t good for the dog and isn’t good for your relationship with the dog.
